The
project is designed to inform the mass media and the population
of Ukraine, raise overall awareness and capacity building of the
civil society, through exposure to innovative, gender, age and
culture sensitive training to prevent stigmatization and thereby
promoting universal human rights protection and HIV/AIDS
prevention in Ukraine.
Training
Two major training programs were organized in Kyiv in two
private universities among students of journalism and publishing,
law and social work. About 100 trainees in total took part,
average age 19-20. Two more training sessions are planned by end
2003.
Survey
A survey is being undertaken within the framework of this
project. Getting the trainees take part in the survey, allowed
us to obtain a quick needs assessment before the training. In
another case, the trainees filled up the questionnaire after the
session ended. The results were a lot better as they were
already equipped with basic data and knowledge.
For a more in-depth study, we also conducted a survey in Crimea
among various population and groups, covering 300 respondents.
The data from all questionnaires is being analyzed now and soon
a report will be made available.
We invite you to take part in this survey. To get the
questionnaire click here.
Please send it back with your responses to knowthis@eedi.org.ua

Do
you write about HIV/AIDS?
Here is something of help to you - a glossary, with the
language of unity
A glossary of appropriate terms for journalists, and
professionals working in this area has been prepared in English
and in Ukrainian using universally acknowledged UN guidelines.
More often than not, frequently used terms carry discriminatory
note, which builds barriers and walls between "them"
and "us", while in the wake ofthe global nature of the
problem of HIV/AIDS, we should talk of "ourselves" and
not "them/us" at all. Please write to us at knowthis@eedi.org.ua
for obtaining the glossary electronically or by mail.
